Sewing: Making Your Own Clothes

Do you have a favorite shirt or dress that fits perfectly that you hate to toss when its worn out? Then don't. Carefully open the seams to create pattern pieces. You can also use parts of a garment to sew and design your own personal wardrobe addition.
Fitting a sleeve into another shirt pattern isn't that difficult. Trace the section on paper for the armhole it will be sew into to.

Finding a short sleeve that's the right length I want is often a problem. When a favorite blouse became rag bin worthy, I save one sleeve to use as a pattern piece. The sleeve can also be used to redesign a tee shirt or dress.
Once you know the pieces that fit you, making clothes will be easier.
