Wooly Bear Caterpillar

As they sayings go...if Woolly Bear caterpillars have a narrow band (brown) means harsh winter, large band means a milder winter. In conversation, I heard this winter will be awful. Hm?
I took a short video of this little one with the big brown stripe. Maybe his part of town will have a mild winter. Look at autumn acting like its still summer.Maybe winter will think its autumn. Laughing.
(I pronounce it cada pill er.)

  1. Maywyn - I am so glad you shared this information with me... I always am confused on the predictions concerning cada pill ers! Mine are showing quite a bit of brown too. In fact for the next week it is to be in the 80's here (our summer has finally arrived - lol)! Time to break out those bathing suits we didn't wear at all these past few months. So I think your caterpillar may know something the weather forecasters (doomsayers) don't! Hugs P.S. Be sure and enjoy this great weather!!

    1. Hi Debbie,
Glad to read your comment on such a summery day!
Not to dampen the party, but that little fella was in quite a hurry. Of course it could be that human looming over him with a camera that made him scurry. Uploading the 12 second video now.
      Have a fantastic week-end!

  2. It will be interesting to see if the caterpillar is smarter than the weather men :) I heard another harsh winter this year.

    1. Hi Dee,
I heard the same, a harsh winter.
That caterpillar is a city kid, lives downtown where temperatures from buildings and traffic, methinks, is higher than if he was in the woods. There should be data on city vs. rural Woolly Bears. :)

That's a beautiful way to put it and so true.
