Bumble Bee Behavior

The bumble bee in the photograph is going around in a circle over and over on the sidewalk buzzing his wings. A mating dance? Marking territory? Rain rinse flower material? Buzzing over spilled soda?
There's more about bumble bees than I care to read in order to discover the answer. If you know, then please leave a kind comment.

  1. They are doing a dance that lets other bees know they have found pollen or nectar. :)

  2. Thank you Dee!
Flower perfume through that section is lovely. It must have been that bee's first find because he was going around and around non-stop with no attention paid to me at all. Duh on me I didn't take a short video.

  4. Hi Debra,
Now that you mention it, bumble bees don't intimidate me as much as honey bees and wasps.

  5. Great photo - and I love to see them buzzing around my flowers...I don't know much about them except if you encroach upon them they can deliver a powerful sting! (LOL)

  6. Hi Debbie,
Such cute little fuzzy critters, I didn't know they sting until reading about it.
